Whew! This was a tough one this time. Not only finding out the major world news, but narrowing down one story per year. There's a lot of journaling on my layout that I haven't copied, but my list of "top" events of each year is below.

2001: 9-11 (terrorist attack on New York)

2002: the Euro goes into effect

2003: SARS pandemic

2004: Asian tsunami

2005: Hurricane Katrina hits New Orleans

2006: bird flu

2007: Virginia Tech massacre

2008: Thai political crisis

2009: H1N1 scare

2010: Haitian earthquake
